The Wasserkuppe is the highest elevation (950 meters or 3,117 ft), located in the Rhoen Moutain in central Germany. It is a popular destination for excursions and sightseeing tours and being the birthplace of soaring in Germany. The Wasserkuppe is well known as Mountain of Aviation.

After World War II a radar station was established on the highest point of the Wasserkuppe. Some years after the reunification of Germany in 1989 its military use ended and the last one of originally four radar stations is today being used as lookout point and location for a variety of cultural events.

The Radome is a visible afar landmark and in the course of time became inseparably linked with the Wasserkuppe and the Rhoen landscape.
